Audio Archive Podcast – Go against the Grain is a long-term journalistic project and digital archive for conversations, interviews, reports, and essays on politics, society, and culture. Two to four new podcast episodes are released each month.Â
For more than three decades, we have been conducting interviews with philosophers, authors, activists, and scientists worldwide. Our interviewees explain the complex developments of our time and place them in an easily understandable and contemporary context within the global framework.Â
The Audio Archive Podcasts focus neither on mass media uniformity nor on unreflective pack journalism, but on differentiating insights: enlightening, knowledgeable and free from economic interests.Â
All Audio Archive podcasts are free. No revenue is generated through advertising. No AI support.
More details about the project, background informations, articles, video shorts, essays and all podcasts you'll find on our webpage and archiveÂ

/🎓 On the outskirts of Ahmedabad, not far from the Sabarmati Ashram founded by ‘Babu’ Mahatma Gandhi – the starting point of the famous Salt March – lies the village of Chharanagar. This is home to the Chharas, a community that was once nomadic. In the predominantly Muslim Indian state of Gujarat, alcohol is banned. The Chharas, who were forcibly settled by the British and classified as genetically criminal (criminal tribes act 1871) on racist grounds, were only able to survive by illegally distilling and selling alcohol. To this day, every other house has a homemade still in its back garden. To break out of this vicious circle of criminalisation, the Budhan Street Theatre was founded. We visited Chharanagar and the Budhan Theatre.
