Sein Buch "Orientalism" aus dem Jahr 1978 zählt zu bedeutensten Sachbüchern des 20. Jahrhunderts. Edward Said gilt als Begründer der "postkolonial studies". Daneben engagierte sich Edward Said für die Palästinenser. Edward Said lehnte eine Zwei-Staaten-Lösung für Israel und Palästina ab forderte die Errichtung eines Nicht-zionistischen Staates indem Palästinenser und Juden gleichberechtigt miteinander leben. Edward Said gründete mit Daniel Barenboim und Bernd Kauffmann das weltberühmte West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.

His book ‘Orientalism’ from 1978 is one of the most important non-fiction books of the 20th century. Edward Said is regarded as the founder of ‘postcolonial studies’. Edward Said was also committed to the Palestinians. Edward Said rejected a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine and called for the establishment of a non-Zionist state in which Palestinians and Jews live together as equals. Edward Said founded the world-famous West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with Daniel Barenboim and Bernd Kauffmann.

Parallèlement, Edward Said s'est engagé en faveur des Palestiniens. Edward Said s'est opposé à une solution à deux États pour Israël et la Palestine et a demandé la création d'un État non sioniste dans lequel les Palestiniens et les Juifs vivraient sur un pied d'égalité. Edward Said a fondé avec Daniel Barenboim et Bernd Kauffmann le West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, célèbre dans le monde entier.
كريستوف بورغمر في حوار مع إدوارد سعيد (1935-2003). درّس الأديب الفلسطيني إدوارد سعيد في جامعة كولومبيا في نيويورك. يعد كتابه ”الاستشراق“ الصادر عام 1978 أحد أهم الكتب غير الروائية في القرن العشرين. يعتبر إدوارد سعيد مؤسس ”دراسات ما بعد الاستعمار“. كما قام إدوارد سعيد بحملة لصالح الفلسطينيين. رفض إدوارد سعيد حل الدولتين الإسرائيلية والفلسطينية ودعا إلى إقامة دولة غير صهيونية يعيش فيها الفلسطينيون واليهود معًا على قدم المساواة. أسس إدوارد سعيد أوركسترا الديوان الغربي الشرقي المشهورة عالميًا مع دانييل بارنبويم وبيرند كوفمان.
