For decades, Gore Vidal was considered the object of hatred of the American right and the "enfant terrible" of the democratic bourgeoisie. The writer and politician openly confessed his homosexuality since the 1950s. In his novels, he repeatedly took up controversial social issues, got involved in public discussions and was insulted as "queer" on television as early as 1968. In this interview, Gore Vidal explains his assessment of why the United States has been in an eternal, never-ending state of war since the end of World War II.
