/🎓 Abdelmajid Benjelloun in conversation with Christoph Burgmer. Abdelmajid Benjelloun is a Moroccan writer, poet and historian who writes in French and specialises in the history of northern Morocco. In this conversation, Abdelmajid Benjelloun analyses the role of the Moros within contemporary Moroccan history. The question of the Moros’ responsibility in the Spanish Civil War remains controversial to this day. This is particularly so as Spanish historical scholarship has paid scant attention to the Moros’ motives and circumstances, and the eyewitnesses have long since passed away. Thus, 90 years after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, and in light of the events in Ceuta in 2026, it becomes abundantly clear how a Eurocentric interpretation of history unites even ideologically diverse parties under the banner of nationalist populism.
